There are a lot of types of food in Brazil which can satisfy everyone's taste: fruit, delicious meat, seafood, natural milk products, pastry. In a fact, Brazil is not only paradise for football, beer, cocktails, but also a paradise for people, who have passion for sweets; as in Italy, in numerous pastelarias or lanches can be found different tarts, pies, rolls, which can be bought as a whole or slice of cake. Pave − tart with fruit layers, white cream; it is popular, but those, who prefer chocolate cakes with rich taste, hardly will like it.
I cannot but mention about astounding chocolate cake with a yellow layer, similar to condensed milk. This cake is called Gate nega. By the way, condensed milk is sold in supermarkets in small tetra paks. It cannot be found in Turkey, for example.
Empadao. It is a kind of not sweat pie. I found two types; surprisingly, but empadao from restaurant didn’t give impression, while empadao in snack bar looked like a traditional pie and was incredibly tasty! In restaurant were given very small empadaos, looking like pastels, but pounchy, and were filled with chicken, beans, chees but it was mishmash with a lack of taste.
Bauru – national sandwiches with chicken, cheese. Usually can be found in snack bars. Really tasty and fresh.
Pastels (pasteis). It is a snack, and its shape is very similar to Russian cheburek or Italian calzone, can be with meat inside – carne, with chicken – frango; palmito, with cottage cheese − queijo. Pastels may differ by their size in different places to eat. There is nearly no filling inside big size pastels, for example, in large pastel de queijo which I tried in a snack bar was no cottage cheese as a filling, just the edges were smeared inside. In the restaurant were given small meat pastels, in fact, there was a meat, but so similar looking cheburek which is bigger (from Russia) seemed much tastier. Cannot give you advise to try pastels: there is much more interesting food in Brazil.
Meat in Brazil worths a special narration. You cannot find frozen meat in supermarkets or other stores. It is sold fresh everywhere, and can be stored 3-4 days. The meat is lean. Brazilian like to eat costela for lunch; “costela” can be translated as “ribs”. Mainly, it is cooked from beef, and in case of special order can be cooked from pork. So, Muslims can go to Brazil and dine without suspicion. Costela is served on large trays and given without bones, with farofa; the meat is excellent.
Feijoada – traditional Brazilian dish: boiled beef beans, beaf gets colour of beans. On the foto is feijoada innovated by the author (pineapple was added); the excellent combination.
Farofa – flour, which is used to sprinkle meat; Christmas turkey is stuffed with it
Camarao – popular dish, I especially liked it in one of restaurants of Balneario Camboriu. It was cooked special way – fried in thin dough dumpling (covered with a thin dough layer), and was extremely fresh and tasty.
I don’t recommend Ravioli. So popular in Italian restaurants of Brazil, but in fact, not ravioli at all (ravioli should be small at least), as huge as Russian pelmeni, though, were sprinkled with grated parmesan Italian-style. On the photo is so called ravioli from Terra Madre Ristorante, where, as a positive, attentiveness of personnel amazes. Similar ravioli were found in Dom Antonio restaurant, the biggest Italian restaurant in the world, located in Italian district of Curitiba city.
